From pastor at bbc-cortland.org Mon Jul 6 15:10:22 2009 From: pastor at bbc-cortland.org (Harold H Comings) Date: Mon, 6 Jul 2009 15:10:22 -0400 Subject: [ESF] Don LeMaster Prayer Request Message-ID: <654E3DE5D3814DE5B1E0B01EE7A09F3E@HaroldPC> Pastor Don LeMaster will be having thoracic surgery at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York on Tuesday, July 14, 2009. A follow-up MRI revealed two spots in the right lung area that need to be removed. A biopsy will be performed to determine if the spots are cancerous or not. As soon as Pastor LeMaster has recovered sufficiently from the thoracic surgery he will be having further surgery to remove a pituitary tumor. This surgery was performed in August, 2000 but the tumor has grown to a size that makes removal mandatory. Last time the tumor was benign and that is expected this time also. The reason it must be removed is because it is causing vision problems. Pastor LeMaster's daughter, Meredith, continues her battle with colon cancer. She is scheduled for cyber knife therapy in the near future. Please pray that this procedure will be successful. In your prayers please ask the Lord to glorify Himself in the LeMaster family. Thank you so much for your prayers and encouragement. If it went out on the ESF line I didn't find it. My apologies for not getting it out sooner. Mike Paris is Senior Pastor at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Ithaca. This week his sister-in-law, Crystal, was in an accident which took her life. Also injured was her young son, Ethan. Mike posted this information on his Facebook this evening. << Ethan is doing well and will be weaned out of coma tomorrow if all goes well..... Crystal's calling hours will be Fri, with a funeral on Sat in Owego. More details to follow. Check out http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/ethanparis and minister to the family directly. The private room gives the doctors the ability to control any outside stimuli to help with his recovery. They attempted to allow Ethan to come out of the induced coma several times yesterday. They saw many positive results (moving arms, coughing, moving his head away from light, etc...)but wanted to wait another day to fully allow him to wake up. Today the doctors will slowly decrease the medicines that keep him in the coma and will closely monitor his progress again. I'm hoping to see open eyes when I get to visit later this evening! -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Here, at last, is an update from me. If you want up to date updates you can sign in to http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/ethanparis Some major milestones Saturday: - Ethan has been yawning, coughing, stretching, reaching for things, trying to take of his c-collar and leg brace today - He said "owwww" when the nurses tried to move him this evening - He has eaten some more slushie and even upgraded to a popsicle when the slushie machine died. He was able to suck on it and open his mouth enough to bite of and chew pieces of it. - He has been very intentional with his movements today. He moved his lips as if he were saying something but no sound came out. He tried to take all of his braces and monitors off. He helped roll himself when the nurses needed to shift his position for cleaning. - Ethan's condition has improved enough to move him from the Pediatric ICU (4C) to the intermediate care unit (4N). The supervisor that I talked to here tonight indicated that all of Ethan's progress was inline with what they are expecting to see. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Then we will go to Brazil for a couple weeks before returning to New York at the end of August. I found this note from Mike Paris waiting for me this morning. Here is what he said and the latest update on Ethan. Harold Mike Paris writes... << Harold and pray-ers, Today is day 21. 3 weeks ago, our family's life was disrupted by a tragedy. Ethan continues to make improvement and is recovering from the serious car accident that took the life of his mother/Thad's wife/our sister-in-law. I know that many of you that are still praying are doing so because this story is too familiar to you -- it sounds like something that you have been through. That actually is a great comfort to me... it allows me to be especially ready to minister to others liek you all around me. << Here is this morning's update. The "history" can be read in his journal at www.caringbridge.org/visit/ethanparis Thanks again for praying! Note Thad's concluding statements!! Mike ******* << Ethan has been discharged!.... well, from 7W, at least. Yesterday afternoon the doctors on the pediatric unit officially discharged Ethan and the staff from 2N (rehab unit) admitted him. << Even though the rehab unit is for patients of all ages, Ethan will have some specialized pediatric care. In addition, he will have a whole room to himself, unless they happen to admit another patient that is close in age to Ethan. << This means that Ethan (and Daddy) have plenty of room to move and spread out. It also means that daddy can spend the night and even have a bed to sleep in (until they decide they need it for another patient). << Ethan's therapy schedule will fill up his day from 8:30 (breakfast) until 2:30 each afternoon. He will get to do all kinds of physical therapy, occupationa l therapy, and cognitive therapy. In fact, we're off to his first cgnitive session right now! << Ethan continues to make significant progress and has added shaking his head yes and no to different questions. He also got to meet a little girl last night who is in a wheelchair. We had a fun time racing around the halls (until she got too close to the exit and set the alarm off). << Once we see how tired he is after his daily workouts, we'll be able to decide how to best accomodate visitors. Thank you all for your continued prayers and support. It is very exciting to see how that all translates into Ethan's healing and recovery. (brother's note: You have had a ministry in this family's life and in the healing for one little boy who doesn't know you by name. Thanks ESF'ers!) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:
